Sample Letters

Letters of support are most effective when they are personalized. Please consult one or more of the sample letters below to help you write your own letters to your legislators, to express your support for local Writing Project work and its impact. Encourage other supporters of the NWP, including teachers, principals, university administrators, parents, and community leaders, to do the same.

Letters of support are most effective when they give specifics and show your personal connection to the issue locally, in the legislator’s district or state. Form letters, or many letters with similar sentences and no personalization, are far less effective.

Letters of support should be faxed or emailed to the education aides for your senators and representatives. Contact information can be found at www.senate.gov, www.house.gov, or you can email publicaffairs@nwp.org.
